Shrek on stage

Shecklet #1 received an exciting birthday experience gift from his Aunt Kari. She picked him up this afternoon to take him to the Children’s Theater to see Shrek!

After the musical, the two went to Perkins for appetizers and pie. Shecklet #1 also came home with a Klutz spaceship kit. (He built the first one 5/26/14.)

Mani/pedi

Shecklet #3 and I have matching manicures (and also pedicures :)) We did them at home this afternoon. She picked the color and sparkly top coat. (Ignore my dry hands!)

Happy 8th birthday, Shecklet #1!

Happy birthday, Shecklet #1!

Can you believe you’ve been around the sun 8 times?!?  Your dad pointed that out this morning at breakfast. I can remember your birthday like it was yesterday.  I know I say this every year, but you are growing up so fast!  In the past year you’ve figured out how to ride your bike, ride your scooter, jump rope, read, add, subtract, and write in sentences. And your drawing has become so much more detailed. Your love of art and science is evident in almost everything you choose to do and you have enjoyed the Mad Science classes you’ve taken at school as extra-curricular activities.

You have a fun summer ahead!  Golf camp, Play-Net, VBS, and maybe a trip to visit cousins.  Lots of new memories to create!  I’m excited to see what the coming year has in store for you!

XOXO

Mom

Peter Rabbit went to work

The Shecklets received Easter treats from several generous relatives and friends this year. In one bag, (from my sister-in-law’s mom) each of them were given little Peter Rabbit. Shecklet #2 snuck his rabbit into the car on his way to school, so Jake decided to put him to work today.

Peter Rabbit worked up an appetite, so he took a break for lunch.

A little while later, he led calisthenics.

Finally, it was time to go home. Buckle up for safety!

Easter 2014

Easter morning came early for us this year.  In order to make it to mass on time (7:30 am) with all six of us dressed in our Easter finery, my alarm went off just a tad before 5:30 am.  I longed to hit the snooze button just one more time (I had already pressed it 4 times) but I manged to get myself out of bed to start the day.  The kids were wonderfully chipper and got ready without incident.  If there’s one perk to attending the “early” mass on Easter, it’s being able to arrive at the church 10 minutes prior to mass beginning and still get a front row pew.  And we had all the space we needed, which comes in handy now that Shecklet #4 is a wiggler/mover.

After mass, the kids searched for their Easter baskets and were treated to some new duds, flip-flops, gum, Holy Heroes cd’s and a few chalk activities for the driveway.

2014 - 04 April 20 - Easter

A little while later, we packed up and headed to Jake’s grandparents’ house to have brunch with family and friends.  The weather was gorgeous – we couldn’t have asked for a nicer day.

Once we returned home, we let the older kids break out the sidewalk chalk paint.  (We have yet to bust open the new box of chalk.  I don’t know who is more excited – me or the kids!)

I was hoping to snap a few more photos today, but instead chose to just enjoy the moment and conversations taking place around me.  I did capture a few pictures of relatives we don’t get to see very often as well as one of Lincoln with Uncle Mark.  They were sporting similar hair styles 🙂

Stair sleeping

This is what happens when you get up at 6am, have a meltdown at 11am, and Mom tells you to go up to your room to take a break…you don’t make it past the first couple of steps.

Name change

In an effort to keep our kids somewhat anonymous to strangers on the interwebs, I refer to them by number when I blog.  We’ve called them Little #1, #2, #3 and #4 for quite some time.  However, with my Little #2 turning 6 and Little #1 rapidly approaching 8(!!!) I think it may be time to change their nicknames just a bit.

When we announced that we were expecting #4, we nicknamed the crew, The Shecklets.  They’ll always be “my littles,” but “Shecklets” seems more fitting as they continue to grow both older and taller!  And we all know they are probably not going to be little (i.e. short) kids!

Being present

I am trying to do better at staying in the moment and savoring the ages my children are right now. I don’t want to wish these days away (even though I am ready to pull my hair out at times!) I want to create memories with and of my children that we will all look back on and smile…like finding toys around the house in places you wouldn’t expect.
