Shecklet #1’s Confirmation 2022

It was a big day in Shecklet #1’s life! He turned 16 and was Confirmed on the same day!

His sponsor was a gentleman from our parish who he met back in 2nd grade.

A little history of their friendship…Prior to his First Communion, Shecklet #1 gave a loaf of banana bread to a man (Mr. M.) on Bread Sunday. Bread Sunday is a parish tradition where First Communicants help make a loaf of any type of bread and then give it to someone they don’t know at the end of mass. Little did we know then how Mr. M. would become such a strong, prayerful supporter of Shecklet #1 over the coming years. God’s hand in their initial meeting and continued connection is very clear.

When it came time to select a sponsor, there was little hesitation on Shecklet #1’s part as to who he would choose.

It was a beautiful day for a beautiful mass, and we are grateful to have witnessed Shecklet #1 take the next step in his faith. God is doing amazing things in his life!

Easter 2022

We attended 8:30 mass this morning to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. The church was full – it was great to see! Shecklet #1 ran the cameras for the livestream and we sat in the pew directly in front of him (at the back of the church.)

After coming home, the kids got changed and hunted for their Easter baskets. Shecklet #4 found hers before mass. We then headed to Grandma Lois’ house to join a few other family members for Easter lunch/dinner. The kids had fun playing with one of their littlest cousins – hunting for eggs, going to the park, and just making her giggle.

The egg hunt this year was full of laughs. Some of the plastic eggs that were hidden in the backyard were found by squirrels who managed to gnaw their way through the plastic and eat the chocolate candy inside!

We even got to see one of Jake’s younger cousins (who was our flower girl almost 20 years ago.) Yes, 2022 is the year of our 20th anniversary! It doesn’t seem possible.)

Our citizenship is in heaven

12:20am on Palm Sunday 2022, my godmother and aunt, Deb, took her final breath here on earth and joined her loved ones in heaven – including our sweet Astrid.

My SIL was one of a handful of people who knew that my aunt was in her last days and had been praying for her and our family. After telling Bri of Deb’s passing, she shared the verse from Philippians that clearly God keeps putting in my life.

It’s the same verse we put on Astrid’s marker and that I wrote on our sanctuary floor not once, but twice.

Father/Daughter Dance 2022

The Handmaidens of the Lord group that Shecklet #3 is part of planned and hosted a father/daughter dance for the 3-12th grade young ladies and their dads/father figures. Shecklets #3 & #4 accompanied their dad to the event. Shecklet #3 also invited a friend of hers from school to bring her dad too, which she did.

Shecklet #1 was asked to be the DJ for the event and was definitely in his element. He did a great job keeping the music going – because you can’t have a dance without music!

Bible in a Year

I did it! I’m a few days in to 2022, but I did it. I finished listening to the Bible in a Year podcast from Fr. Mike Schmitz.

I’m 44 and this is the first time in my life I have gone through the entire Bible. I learned SO much and am extremely grateful to have been able to learn more about God’s word and my faith.

Standing on the Word of God – 2022

Our parish’s sanctuary has been expanded and part of the remodel involves new flooring. Before the marble is installed, parishioners were given a chance to write a verse on the concrete. (We did this a few years ago prior to the new carpet installed.) Philippians 3: 20, 21 is the verse that is on Astrid’s marker. ❤️ I didn’t realize this until just now when I found my 2017 post, but Phil 3:20 is the verse I chose back then, too.

Christmas Day 2021

Christmas morning was spent at home.

Here are the “read” gifts they received. This year we opted for “practical use” material.

The “want” gifts.

ETA 12/27/21: Shecklet #1 finished his LEGO set in no time, Shecklet #2 can’t wait to use his new ski gloves (he wore a hole in his old ones,) Shecklet #3 found the perfect place in her room for the fuzzy purple rug, and Shecklet #3 has been having fun taking pictures with her camera.

The “share” gift. I may or may not have gone a little overboard here, but the deal I got on Perler beads was too good. 40,000 beads should keep them busy for a while, right?!?

After lunch, we headed south to spend the afternoon/evening with Jake’s family. Everyone was there – including Tippi!

Merry Christmas!!

Christmas Eve 2021

We attended 4pm mass at our parish to celebrate Christmas. Aunt Larissa joined us for mass and afterwards we had heavy appetizers for dinner. Jake returned to church to run the cameras for streaming the 10pm mass.

PPFL – Astrid’s Story

Prenatal Partners for Life was a huge support to us during our pregnancy with Astrid as well as the time after her death. Mary, the founder of PPFL, asked if I would write about our time with Astrid for her to use in their fall newsletter. I was honored to be able to share about the short life of our little girl and the impact she continues to have on all of us.
