The week in review

Busy week, but I neglected to take many pictures.  Here’s the week in a nutshell:

Monday – No School for Nolan.  My good friend Michelle came over to watch the boys so I could run to an appointment.

Tuesday – Mardi Gras party at our church.  Pasta & hot dog buffet dinner along with crafts for the kids.  Nolan picked up a mask, fan & mardi gras beads.  He was all decked out!

Wednesday – back to school.  Lincoln and I made a much needed run to Sam’s Club to stock up on the basics.  It never ceases to amaze me just how much “the basics,” cost.  But then again, it will hopefully be a few months before I need to rest0ck what I just picked up.

Thursday – heard another good friend, Libby, speak at a women’s group at our church.  She is an amazing woman, who I am so thankful to call a friend.

Friday – met with a trainer to get my new heart rate monitor set up.  Here’s to making the most out of my workouts!

Saturday – Dinner with our friends Jess & Brandon.  The boys love going to their house.  And as parents, it’s so great to know when our boys show up, there are kid-friendly things for them to play with – and Jess & Brandon are right alongside playing, too!  Awesome 🙂

Sunday – Didn’t feel well today.  Lincoln had a rough night, so he thankfully slept in a little after being up for a good 2-3 hours in the middle of the night.  We all ended up taking a nap in the afternoon and watched the Olympics in the evening.  We even had a surprise short visit from our friend, Deacon Joseph.  It was a nice end to the day.

OTW – feeling crummy

My weekend actually started Thursday, if you count the weekend as the days I’ve felt less than 100%.  Not that I feel 100% a lot of the time, but I’d say it’s generally at least in the 90’s.  The last four days I’ve been down in the 25-30% range.  Not fun.  Thursday I started an on and off streak of migraines that have had me down for the count most of the weekend.  Friday morning I woke up in such pain that I called my mom to see if she could come over to wrangle the mini-men.  Thankfully, she was able to clear her schedule and come to my aid.  I was in bed (and in pain) until dinnertime.  My awesome mom not only handled the boys (play time, lunch time, nap time & dinner time) but she also helped me get started on the mountain of laundry that has been silently growing in my basement.  What a gift to me she was on Friday.

Unfortunately, the pain did not subside on Saturday and Jake was kind enough to pick up where my mom left off and took care of the boys, meals, etc. all day.  In the morning, he took Lincoln to the swimming pool while Papa & Nolan went to Lowe’s to build something together.  That something was a fantastic jewelry organizer!  Nolan was SO proud of his project – and rightfully so!  I love it!  And to make it even more perfect, Jake’s Valentine’s Day gift to me was a beautiful sapphire necklace, & earrings made by our family friend, Becky.  The boys rounded out their Saturday morning outing by stopping for lunch at Nana & Papa’s and a little cake decorating.  They boys had fun with all of the frosting and sprinkles (or crickets, as Nolan called them.)  After dinner, we enjoyed the finished products.  Yum!

Box full of love

What preschool year would be complete without a Valentine’s Day card & candy exchange?  Nolan’s “homework” for the event was to decorate a box for his notes & treats.  I glued construction paper to a shoebox and let the boys sticker it up.  Lincoln, of course, had to lend a hand.

Carpet canoeing

The boys must be dreaming of summer.  Tonight they used the emptied out book container as a canoe and a wrapping paper tube & hobby horse as paddles to navigate through the living room.  Who needs TV when you have this kind of entertainment?!?

Prayers before pizza

This morning as Jake was peering into the boys’ toy room, he overheard Nolan ask Lincoln if he wanted some pizza.  Lincoln responded emphatically with a “yes!”   The two proceeded to the “table” where they sat down by the pretend pizza.  Nolan then reminded Lincoln, “We need to say prayers first!”  They made the sign of the cross, Nolan recited the entire “Bless Us Oh Lord” prayer, and then reminded Lincoln to “make the sign of the cross again.”  Then they dug in.

Yet another moment that makes me smile and reminds me just how much the two of them are soaking in at this age.  I love that Nolan knows that prayers before meals (real or not) are an important part of thanking God for what He has given us.

Fun in the kitchen sink

Lincoln insisted on helping with dishes this afternoon.  I went to wipe off the table and came back to a drenched 22 month old.  He was trying to mimic me by putting his towel into the water to wash the dishes.  The result of his actions was one wet kid.  He loved it though.  I think he thought it was like bath time with bubbles.

The gass we pass

Tonight after prayers were said and little boys were snuggling in for the night, I laid my head down on Nolan and asked if I could use him as a pillow tonight.  He started wiggling around and I told him he makes a pretty uncomfortable pillow.  Just as I said that, a short puff of gas came out of his rear into my ear.  The kid totally farted on me.  We all instantly broke out in laughter.  I couldn’t believe what he did – and I don’t think he could either.  I shot up from my sleeping position and stood next to his bed.  He was still giggling uncontrollably.  I went over to give Lincoln a kiss and said, so are you going to fart on me now too?  His answer, “ya.”  Thankfully I don’t think he understood what I was asking (and didn’t follow through on his promise.)

Stickery mom

I was sitting on the couch today when Nolan came over with a sticker sheet and decided I would make a good poster board.  After he was done, he told me how “stickery” I looked.  This took place mid-afternoon.  And yes, I kept the stickers on until Jake came home and could take a picture.  What a mom, huh?  Here I am with Lincoln checking out Nolan’s handiwork.

Napkin please

Tonight while I was preparing dinner, the boys were preparing their own once again in their play kitchen.  They were doing so minus the food because it was in the closet, but that didn’t seem to phase them.  The large cardboard building blocks made for tasty pieces of pizza.  At one point, Nolan informed me that they needed napkins.  Rather than give them the paper ones (because I know they would end up getting shredded,) I asked if they would mind using washcloths.  They emphatically responded positively, so I gave them each one.  Lincoln insisted on having me tuck his into the collar of his outfit while Nolan opted for putting his on his knees.  It was quite amusing to watch them talk back and forth (or have Nolan ask Lincoln yes and no questions) while they “ate.”  Nolan is really big into imaginary play lately.  I love it!  And it’s great that he likes having Lincoln play along too.  In fact, the other day he told my mom, “I love my brother.”  So sweet!
