Muddin’

The roads in our neighborhood are being replaced this summer so we have had fun watching the workers and machines from our front window.  Tonight we took a family walk to see the big diggers up close.  On the walk back, I told the boys they could go splash in the mud puddles.  (I know, I’m a great mom!)  Lincoln ended up getting stuck in a deep puddle and leaned a bit too far to his left.  He was a tad scared at first, but when we told him he won the “mud award” for the night, he perked right up.

The Easter Bunny

We’ve had the Easter Bunny living in our attic for several years.  The boys have seen him a couple of times, but I always forget to bring him out on Easter.  While purging a bunch of stuff from the attic this afternoon, I decided to pull ‘ol Mr. EB out from the corner and place him in the rocker in the boys’ room.

Backing up a bit, my in-laws took the kids for the day so Jake and I could get a few things done around the house.  Jake worked in the yard, I went in to the office for a couple of hours and then did some purging of things we don’t use/don’t need any longer.  We took advantage of being kid-free and went to get something to eat.  When we returned, the kids were back, bathed, and reading with Grandma Patti.  Mr. EB was also snugly tucked in on the floor of the boys’ room.

Mr. EB was a gift from Sammy, my adopted grandma.  We grew up living away from our other grandparents.  Sammy over-flowed the grandparent void that Tony and I had with love, attention, & simple everyday experiences that left a life-long impression on both of us.  Knowing I can share some of her with my own kids makes my heart smile.  I’m sure she’s smiling down on all of us from Heaven, too.

Jeepin’ around

You know it’s spring when the kids ask if they can get the jeep out of the shed.  It didn’t matter that the battery wasn’t charged.  Nolan pushed, Lincoln steered, and Ingrid navigated.

Chicks, swans & Grandma Patti’s birthday

We went to Grandma Patti & Grandpa Dave’s house tonight to celebrate Grandma’s birthday (a day early.) I took the kids down after Ingrid got up from her nap, so we arrived a little before dinner time.  We took advantage of the great weather and went for a walk. Neighbors up the road just received 60 new baby chicks, so we brought the kids over to see the fluffy peepers.  From there, we walked up the hill to another neighbor’s pond to see the swans.  The male was not pleased with the proximity at which we were looking at him and his mate.  The way he flared his feathers made for a visually interesting show.

After we had dinner and birthday grasshopper pie (Grandma Patti’s favorite) we went back outside for some fun in the driveway & yard.  The three amigos all had to have their turn trying to climb the basketball pole.  They all needed a little boost from Uncle Jason & Daddy.

Play-doh kind of day

Today we quickly discovered that most of our play-doh lost its “doh.”  It was more like play-crusty-rock.  The kids didn’t seem to mind that I threw out 90% of our stock.  They actually were quite helpful in going through the multiple containers in our stash.  Guess it’s time for a new batch.

Where is the snow?

The boys have been extremely disappointed with the lack of snow this winter.  They have asked if we can go sledding or build a snowman every time we’ve had a measly snowfall.  The snow has been so scarce that Jake has had to make a trail of it across the asphalt on the road so the boys can sled down the front hill and glide over snow on their sleds instead of stopping abruptly and getting road rash on their sweet faces.

Halloween 2011

Yesterday I loaded up the crew and brought them to Jake’s parents’ house so they could trick-or-treat at Grandma & Grandpa’s.  Today, we headed out to the office to greet Papa & Uncle Tony and then went to the house to see Nana.  The kids have had so much fun wearing their costumes this year…Buzz Lightyear, Red Dog, and Little Bee.

First day of fall

The kids and I stopped at the park on the way home from picking Nolan up from preschool this afternoon.  The air was crisp and the sun was shining – it was a beautiful fall afternoon.

Waterskiing

Apparently my boys were craving some lake fun today.  I was painting the shed and all of a sudden I heard Lincoln shout, “Hit it!”  Then Nolan turned the crank on something that made a clicking sound.

I turned around to find this: a striped sheet was tied to the upper part of the playset (the ski rope,) the lawnmower (the boat ignition/throttle) was laying on the playset platform, and two tennis rackets were next to each other on the grass (skis.)  Good to know they’ve picked up the ski/tube lingo.

Nolan reenacted the scene so I could capture a couple of pictures.

Cousins

Jake and I got up this morning and went to mass with Ingrid, letting the rest of the house sleep in.  My dad was there as well.  Afterward, my dad offered to take us to breakfast on main street.  Jake told me to go and he would head back to the house to check on the boys.  When we walked into the restaurant we found my brother and cousin Jared sitting at a table.  We sat down and shortly after, Josh and his girlfriend, Jordan, joined us.  My mom eventually joined us as well.  Good food and good conversation.

After breakfast Jared took Tony & me to see Josh’s new house and dogs.  Then we went back to Jared & Kyla’s to pack up, have lunch, and try to get a few pics of the cousins.  Emphasis on try.  (You may notice that Lincoln is missing from the little cousins photo – he wasn’t in the photo taking mood.)

I don’t know which group was more challenging to capture, the younger cousins or the older!

Finally, as we left town this afternoon we stopped to say one final goodbye to Uncle Joe.  As we were pulling into the cemetery, Lincoln said to me, “Mommy, that sleepover was a blast!”  It was really good to be with family.
