Book week at school

K-5 got to dress as a favorite book character for school today. Shecklet #3 is from the House of Slytherin (Harry Potter) and Shecklet #4 is Fancy Nancy. (Extra special thanks to Grandma Patti who made #3’s cape on short notice!)

For the middle school, it’s “Read my shirt” day. Shecklet #2 had several to choose from and chose his “Tyrannosaurus Deer” one. He told me he wore it because his science teacher (one of his favorite teachers this year) likes dinosaurs and so do her kids, who he has a sweet connection with as well.

Battle of the Books – 2022

After missing out on the battle of the books competition last year, (thanks, covid,) Shecklet #3 was excited to participate this year. The first school competition was in December and her team was one of the top 5 to advance to the spring competition. All total, she read about a dozen books between the fall and today’s event. I’m so proud of here.

Here she is with one of her closest friends – and fellow book lover.

Spectacles for Shecklet #3

Reading glasses for Shecklet #3 to ease the strain on her eyes. She has been reading a ton this summer and getting headaches. We hope that her new glasses will help eliminate them.

Battle of the Books – take 2

This kid read like crazy since the last book battle! His team took second place today – just one point behind the first place team. So proud of his self-starter attitude and love of reading!

He came home after the competition and cracked open a new book – this time he got to choose 📖

The Land of Stories

A family friend’s son read The Land of Stories series and his mom recommended them to me several months ago. Fast forward to today and Shecklet #2 is on the sixth and final book in the series.

Light reading

Shecklet #3 planted herself out on the deck this morning and paged through her brother’s new books.

Just like Mommy

After putting the boys to bed tonight, Jake and I were talking in our room while I was feeding Ingrid.  At one point, he looked across the hall and saw the light on in the boys’ room.  Opening the door, he saw Nolan in bed with a Dr. Seuss book.  (Thankfully, Lincoln was out to the world.)

Jake: “Nolan, what are you doing?”

Nolan: “I’m reading to relax, like Mommy does.”

Oh what that child observes and retains.

Best buds

I’m so glad these two have each other.  They really are good buds, in addition to being brothers.  They spent a little time “reading” together tonight.
