Taking steps

While we were celebrating Christmas at my parents’ house tonight Ingrid started to take off, literally, with her walking!  It was so fun to see her toddle more than just a couple of steps before opting for crawling.

Halloween 2011

Yesterday I loaded up the crew and brought them to Jake’s parents’ house so they could trick-or-treat at Grandma & Grandpa’s.  Today, we headed out to the office to greet Papa & Uncle Tony and then went to the house to see Nana.  The kids have had so much fun wearing their costumes this year…Buzz Lightyear, Red Dog, and Little Bee.

Moving around

Ingrid has started cruising around her arena walls.  She’s been doing it for a week or so.  I can’t believe how fast the last year has gone.  I am sure having two very energetic boys in the house has helped speed time up.  Our Little Miss is doing her best to try to keep up with her brothers – she loves to crawl into the toy room to see what they’re doing, swing on the swing set when they play outside, and has even gotten over her dislike for grass to chase them when they run in the yard.

I’ve heard people say that when you add children to your family, your love doesn’t divide, it multiplies.  I know from experience, it’s true.  I love my three little ones more than I ever imagined possible.

Little Miss turns ONE!

Dear Ingrid,

Where did the last year go?  You have become the sweetest crawling (& almost) toddling little girl who loves to explore, loves her brothers, and clearly loves cake!  (Just like her mama :))  What fun we had celebrating your first birthday today!  Both sets of grandparents and one set of great-grandparents joined your family & friends to wish you happy birthday.

I am so thankful for the photos we took of you throughout the year.  I can hardly believe how small (and yet, big) you were when you were born.  You still love to snuggle before you take a nap or go to sleep at night, so I try to soak that up as much as possible.  Your bright blue eyes and toothy grin make everyone around you smile.  Nolan and Lincoln love you to pieces and are extremely protective of you.  They each know how to make you laugh and stop the tears from falling from your eyes.  Many times, Nolan has come into our room and sat by your crib in the early morning when he has heard you fussing.  You immediately stop and your sobs turn to giggles.  Lincoln only has to look at you and you’re charmed.  He’s the one who always makes sure you’re returned to your daddy’s arms or mine when someone else is holding you.  He will never let you go home with anyone other than your family.  You call your brothers, “buh-buhs.”  It is the cutest thing!

I pray the coming year if full of new adventures, lots of love, and tons of hugs and kisses.

We love you, Little Miss!

XOXO

First day of fall

The kids and I stopped at the park on the way home from picking Nolan up from preschool this afternoon.  The air was crisp and the sun was shining – it was a beautiful fall afternoon.

Shiner #3

There are a few downsides to becoming more mobile and trying new things.  Ingrid had an unfortunate run-in (more like flop-on) with one of the plastic toy bins this afternoon.  She was attempting to pull up on it from a slight kneeling/tummy position, lost her grip, and hit the edge of it with her cheek.  I wasn’t able to catch her in time 🙁  Poor baby girl.  (Good thing it was a rounded edge, but still…)  She has now joined the shiner ranks alongside Nolan and Lincoln.

Lower the mattress

So it seems our little miss has really taken off on her moving & climbing.  She gets where she wants to go by rolling everywhere.  She is very close to crawling and has been pulling up on things like the laundry basket and just tonight, was I found her kneeling next to her crib rail.  I had placed her in her crib (sitting) while I went in to her brothers’ room to kiss them good night and when I returned to our room, there she was, smiling with her little head poking up over the rail.  She was so proud of herself 🙂

Now I have to keep her up up long enough for Jake to get back from the gym so he can help me lower her mattress.  Her eyelids are getting heavy…not sure she’ll make it!

Just swinging

We took the kids to the splash pad tonight after swimming lessons.  That may sound a little redundant, but really it wasn’t.  While Shecklet #1 is a fish in the pool, Shecklet #2 has not enjoyed his lesson experience.  We won’t be returning him to the pool (in that setting) for a while.

Anyway…it was extremely hot & humid today, so after we exited the warm junior high pool, we headed for the cool water & “spider web” as Shecklet #1 calls it.  (It’s the giant rope climbing structure at the park next to the splash pad.)

While we were there, we gave Shecklet #3 her first opportunity to swing.  She loved it!

Ingrid’s 1st trip to FL

My baby girl and I had our first girls’ weekend in FL.  We had an early flight out on Friday morning and spent the weekend with Lois & Kathi.  They have been patiently waiting to meet our little miss.  This past weekend was extra special because Lois celebrated her 96th birthday on Saturday.  I’m so happy we were able to be with her on her special day.  She has known me since I was 4 days old and has loved me like a granddaughter.  I am so thankful for her!

No trip to the Sunshine State would be complete without a trip to the beach.  Ingrid wasn’t too fond of the water or the sand.  I’m sure that will change in time.  It was a wonderful weekend spent with fantastic ladies!  I can’t wait to do it again!
