Where is the snow?

The boys have been extremely disappointed with the lack of snow this winter.  They have asked if we can go sledding or build a snowman every time we’ve had a measly snowfall.  The snow has been so scarce that Jake has had to make a trail of it across the asphalt on the road so the boys can sled down the front hill and glide over snow on their sleds instead of stopping abruptly and getting road rash on their sweet faces.

1st trip to the deer shack

Jake took the boys up north this weekend.  He is there with his dad, two uncles, cousins, and a couple of other guys.  I’ve missed their calls due to working on few projects around the house with my dad, but did get a couple of cute messages and one text.  Apparently, Nolan is having a great time and the “man weekend” is better than donuts. 🙂

Date night

Nolan is a huge music lover (all kinds.)  He can often be found changing stations or CDs and dancing or singing along to what is playing.  I’m hoping to have him start piano lessons in the next year or so.  Anyway, I digress…  He is also often intrigued by the music that comes out of the organ at mass on Sundays.

The two of us had a mom-son date tonight.  Our church hosted a professional organist who gave a concert on the 5-keyboard organ we have in our sanctuary. We had front row seats and were able to watch the organist’s fingers dance across the keys while his feet maneuvered the pedals with precision.  I loved spending the evening with my big-little guy.  I’m pretty sure he enjoyed the one-on-one time, too.

Swimming lesson

Jake sent this to me while he was watching Nolan at swimming lessons tonight:

“Right now, the swimming teacher is using your son as the example of the class on how to swim by yourself out in the water.  He has floaties on, but it is still cool to see him floating out by himself and the teacher using peer pressure to get the other kids to follow him.  :)”

Halloween 2011

Yesterday I loaded up the crew and brought them to Jake’s parents’ house so they could trick-or-treat at Grandma & Grandpa’s.  Today, we headed out to the office to greet Papa & Uncle Tony and then went to the house to see Nana.  The kids have had so much fun wearing their costumes this year…Buzz Lightyear, Red Dog, and Little Bee.

Thinking of Uncle Mark

Driving to my parents’ house this morning we were waiting at a stop light and Nolan said, “Mom, there’s an Uncle Mark sticker on the back of that truck.”  Sure enough, I look in front of us and there’s a Harley Davidson Motorcycles sticker on the window of the pickup in front of us.  🙂

Spelling words

Jake wrote on the back window of my suburban a few days ago and I hadn’t noticed.  Today he pointed it out, saying, “Ha, ha, your window says “poop machine.”  Ha, ha!”

Then he proceeded to ask Nolan how to spell, “poop.”  Before Nolan could even attempt to spell it, Lincoln chimed in, “S-H-E-C-K!”  Jake and I could hardly contain ourselves!

Bob & Larry

I took the kids to the local Christian bookstore this morning to see Larry & Bob from the VeggieTales.  Nolan was the only one interested in having his photo taken with the over-sized vegetables.  Lincoln preferred to keep his distance and Ingrid was too interested in looking around at all of the things she could attempt to pull off the shelves to really care.

First day of fall

The kids and I stopped at the park on the way home from picking Nolan up from preschool this afternoon.  The air was crisp and the sun was shining – it was a beautiful fall afternoon.
