Christmas Day 2019

We started the day by attending Christmas Day mass. One of our friends was able to capture a great photo of us (she’s our go-to Easter picture taker, too.)

After we returned home (and changed into comfy clothes) we opened gifts.  The kids each opened their “read” gift first, then their “need” gift.

Followed by their “want” gift.

There were a few extra special gifts from Great Aunt Deb & Uncle Steve as well as Shecklet #1’s tutor, and Shecklet #2 & #4’s godparents.  Then the kids opened their “shared” gifts – things to do together or share with each other.

Lego set building lasted throughout the day.

Shecklet #4 worked on one of her craft projects from Grandma & Grandpa.

Christmas “dinner” wasn’t anything fancy.  We decided to keep it simple and just to heavy appetizers.  The kids didn’t seem to mind.  After dinner, we opened the Shecklets’ new game, Dixit, and played and laughed together.  We ended the evening by finishing the newer animated version of the Grinch.  It was a perfectly peaceful Christmas Day!

Christmas Eve 2019

Over the hills and through St. Paul, to Grandma Patti and Grandpa Dave’s house we go!

This photo of Jake & Jason sums up the personalities of these two, perfectly.

Feast of St. Nicholas 2019

Each Shecklet gets an ornament, chocolate coins, mini jars of Nutella (because they are so cute!) and cereal and orange gum to share. I know oranges are what St. Nick actually is known for, but my kids are hit or miss with them. So I stuck with what I know they’ll all enjoy.

9 trips around the sun

Happy birthday to Shecklet #3! She wanted pizza (mac-n-cheese-topped) and cheesecake for her birthday dinner tonight. Afterwards, she opened presents and we captured some silly pictures of just the girls.

Love this girl so much 💕 She is growing up to be a remarkable young lady.

Shecklet #3’s First Communion

The cold and rain couldn’t take the joy out of today – Shecklet #3’s First Communion day!

Her godfather drove up from St. Louis to concelebrate her First Communion mass and presented her and her classmates with the Precious Blood. It was a gift to have him with us to celebrate this special day!

It’s been a long time since we had both godparents with us at the same time.

After mass, we returned to our house for brunch, cake and ice cream. My friends and mother-in-law were a big help in the kitchen, which was greatly appreciated 💗

We hated to see him go, but his trip to MN was a quick one. He wasn’t even in MN for 24 hours!  We made sure to capture our usual two photo poses – regular and crazy!

The last photo we have of us was right before I was wheeled back for surgery. I’m happy to have a new one of the three of us together.

The first communicant received some very special cards and gifts today, including a book, her own Bible, and her great grandma Sheck’s rosary – she used it during her bedtime prayers tonight. ❤️

God bless you, sweet girl!  Jesus loves you and so do we!

The big 4-0!

Happy birthday to this guy!

His parents came up and went to lunch with us and brought a cake for dessert. The umbrella will come in handy at the kids’ track meets and at the cabin this summer. 🏃‍♀️ ☂ 🏃

Budding artist

An over-sized art kit was one of the great presents that Shecklet #4 received for her 6th birthday. She put many of the art supplies to good use today, including the acrylic paints, brushes, and a fresh canvas.

Happy 6th Birthday to #4!

It’s time for the annual “I can’t believe how old she is,” comment that I say every time one of my kids has a birthday. That and “Time goes so fast!” are frequent thoughts I have. Shecklet #4 is 6 today. SIX! She is full of creativity, independence, and kindness. She loves spending time playing with her older siblings yet enjoys time alone as well.

Swurfer Sunday

This kid got a swurfer swing for Christmas and her dad made it possible for her to use is in the heated garage during the winter.

I even gave it a try. Shecklet #4 made sure I had a helmet on for safety!
