2016 Vacation – Day 1
Today we left for a long weekend family vacation – something we have not done in a long time (with just our immediate family.) A friend of ours (Shecklet #3’s godfather) lives in St. Louis and we haven’t seen him in 4 1/2 years. The timing finally worked for us to make a trip down to see him. We decided to make a stop in Iowa City overnight so the kids could swim and visit the children’s museum tomorrow. We’re all looking forward to getting out of town and having some fun!
Life jacket day
Swimming lessons Saturday is here. Jake sent me a few play by play pics.
Apparently today was life jacket day.
Little #2 was the only one who jumped off the edge.
Little #1 taking his turn off the diving board.
Little #2…full speed ahead!
Little #3 watching from the pool deck…again. Next session we’ll get her in the water.
Swimming lesson
Jake sent this to me while he was watching Nolan at swimming lessons tonight:
“Right now, the swimming teacher is using your son as the example of the class on how to swim by yourself out in the water. He has floaties on, but it is still cool to see him floating out by himself and the teacher using peer pressure to get the other kids to follow him. :)”
Stung
We had our first wasp sting of the summer tonight.
The boys were playing outside, eagerly anticipating the rising waters in kiddie pool, when Nolan started screaming while holding his neck. Lincoln followed suit soon after. We shuttled both boys inside and quickly determined that Nolan had been stung by something (and Lincoln was screaming sympathetically.) Jake went out to the swing set and discovered that wasps had built a nest inside one of the pipes.
He came back in to check on the boys and before going out to take care of the nest, told Nolan, “I’m going outside because the wasps are afraid of me.”
Nolan responded in complete seriousness, “They’re afraid of me too and they tried to eat me!”
Jake could hardly contain himself!
Just swinging
We took the kids to the splash pad tonight after swimming lessons. That may sound a little redundant, but really it wasn’t. While Shecklet #1 is a fish in the pool, Shecklet #2 has not enjoyed his lesson experience. We won’t be returning him to the pool (in that setting) for a while.
Anyway…it was extremely hot & humid today, so after we exited the warm junior high pool, we headed for the cool water & “spider web” as Shecklet #1 calls it. (It’s the giant rope climbing structure at the park next to the splash pad.)
While we were there, we gave Shecklet #3 her first opportunity to swing. She loved it!
