The Last Jedi

The boys have been anxiously awaiting the release of the latest Star Wars movie. Jake and a friend went to see it last night, so he asked if I wanted to take the boys this afternoon. We got tickets for the 1:15 show and the boys loved it!

Playing surgeon

While reading to the girls tonight, Shecklet #3 started asking me questions about my upcoming surgery.  While I’m not about to go into the specific details of what the surgeons will have to do (I’m actually keeping some of those specifics from myself as well,) Jake and I have promised the kids to answer their questions honestly.  After we talked about stitches, the reasons why it is good I’ll be “asleep” during surgery, balance, and the unknowns surrounding my recovery, Shecklet #3 asked if she could pretend to be the surgeon who takes out my tumor.  She brushed my hair aside (which she said was her pretending to shave the spot where they’ll have to make the incision behind my ear,) gathered her surgical “tools” and ever so gently removed my tumor.

I have amazing kids.  They continue to handle this entire scary situation with such poise and honesty.  And I’ve been able to draw strength from that.  I have told Shecklet #3 numerous times over the last month that if I have even a fraction of the courage that she has shown throughout her fingertip injury, I know I can get through what I’m facing in January.

T minus less than 2 months…

Gingerbread houses

Shecklet #4 and I had a chance to spend the afternoon with a good friend of mine and her sweet boys. While we were there, she pulled out gingerbread houses that the her son and Shecklet #4 got to decorate.

And I have a photo of me helping my godson! ❤️ This decorating stuff is serious business!

Advent 2016

I’m putting away fall decor today and pulling out Advent and Xmas decorations. Shecklet #4 is enjoying playing with the nativity set.

Trolls

The Shecklets and I went to the theater today to check out the Trolls movie. We got to the ticket counter only to discover I had left my wallet back at home. *Sigh*

So after returning home and having lunch, we drove back to the theater (with my wallet this time) and had the whole place almost to ourselves. Only two others came for the showing we were at. The movie soundtrack is a Shecklet favorite right now.

Quotables from #4

On the way to my women’s group at church, I heard this from Shecklet #4:

“I have two nicknames, Disgust and Hello Kitty. [Shecklet #3] is Joy and Leia.”

No idea where she comes up with this stuff. She has been saying her nickname is Hello Kitty for a while, but Disgust was a new one – possibly due to the Inside Out band-aid she was wearing this AM. The kid cracks me up!

Mill City Museum

I went on a field trip with Shecklet #2 and his 3rd grade class today. We learned a lot about the old flour mill and the river that used to power it. Great field trip!
