Watching cars go by

Jake took the boys to see the annual Antique Car Run that finishes at a park near our house.  They brought their chairs, bucket hats, and road trip books to pass the time until the cars came.  Looks like they also picked up a few refreshments to keep themselves hydrated while they waited. 🙂

Stung

We had our first wasp sting of the summer tonight.

The boys were playing outside, eagerly anticipating the rising waters in kiddie pool, when Nolan started screaming while holding his neck.  Lincoln followed suit soon after.  We shuttled both boys inside and quickly determined that Nolan had been stung by something (and Lincoln was screaming sympathetically.)  Jake went out to the swing set and discovered that wasps had built a nest inside one of the pipes.

He came back in to check on the boys and before going out to take care of the nest, told Nolan, “I’m going outside because the wasps are afraid of me.”

Nolan responded in complete seriousness, “They’re afraid of me too and they tried to eat me!”

Jake could hardly contain himself!

Blue footed boobies

While I was in FL, Jake sent me a recap of a conversation he had with the boys on their way to church this morning:

Nolan: “Look at those boobies.  Blue footed boobies.”

Me: “Those are geese.  Blue footed boobies live in the Galapagos Islands.”

Lincoln: “I want to go to Galapagos Islands and see the boobies.”

Nolan: “But we have to wait for mommy to come home.”

Just to give a bit of background, the reason this even came up is because one of the animal magazines the boys get recently featured the Blue Footed Booby.  I can only imagine the restraint it must have taken Jake to keep from busting out laughing during this conversation.  I love my boys!

Run, boys, run!

Little Miss Ingrid and I went to a friend’s house tonight for a “ladies night.”  Just a little out of the house time with my favorite little girl, friends & conversation.  While we were there, Jake took the boys to the gym to run.  Yes, all 3 of them ran on the track…for a bit.  Apparently it was quite a sight and many who were also working out got a chuckle out of it.  It’s amazing the boys survived because they were incredibly distracted by all of the action and machines that are located in the center of the track.  Jake said that when they finished their 2nd lap, Lincoln requested that he and Nolan go to the childcare room so Jake could get his workout in on the treadmill.  Two laps was enough for him.  Not bad for little legs like theirs!  And when they got home, they crashed!  Yes!  This may be what we need to do to tire them out until they can resume their (almost) all-day adventures outside when the weather is warmer.

Bedtime conversation

When asked why he’s out of bed, Lincoln responded, “My bed is not comfy.”  (With a pouty face.)

Upon exiting his room a 2nd time, he responded, “I can’t go to sleep in my bed  b/c it smells like body surfers.”

Jake asked, “Where did you hear that?”

Lincoln, “I made it up.”

Going home

After 2 days in the hospital, we packed up and headed home…as a family of 5.  I really love the sound of that.

I know we’ve got some adjustments in store, but we’ll get through it.  I can’t say enough about the care we received in the hospital.  I’ve had great nurses each time I have delivered a child, my doctor is top-notch, and my husband is the greatest support person I could ask for.  I may have rough pregnancies, but I think God treats me to “easy” deliveries.  And for that, I am extremely thankful.

On our way home, Jake asked the boys if they thought we should get a birthday cake for baby Ingrid.  They said yes, of course.  We stopped at the grocery store and Jake ran in to get a cake.  He picked a pink one and the lady behind the bakery counter wrote Ingrid’s name on it.  We lit a “0” candle at home and let the boys blow it out before digging in.  It was strawberry flavored…yum!

After cake, we took the first (of many, I’m sure) pictures of the 3 kids together.  It’s so sweet to finally see them all together.

Nolan is absolutely thrilled to have Ingrid home.  That, and after I’ve recovered, I can wrestle again.

She’s here!

I thought for sure I’d have a 10/01/10 baby, but she held out for one more day.  That’s right, SHE!  We had a little girl today and she is absolutely beautiful!  I’m thrilled she’s finally here.  The last days, weeks, months, ok most of the pregnancy was pretty rough on me.  But as with the boys, it was totally worth it.

We went to the hospital about 4:30 this morning (our fantastic neighbor came over to sit in the house with the boys sleeping upstairs until my mom could drive over.)  They decided to keep me after monitoring me for a couple of hours.  Once in the delivery room, (the largest corner room they have in the place with a great view of a creek,) I managed to endure the contractions for another hour or so and then decided to have my nurse call in the anesthesiologist to provide me with some relief in the form of an epidural.  I’m not one to endure pain for the sake of pain; I know my limits.  So once the kind man gave me my numbing drip, I was able to rest/doze off and get ready to meet our new baby.  My water broke on its own, shortly after, I pushed once, and at 12:19 P.M.,  little Miss Ingrid Anmarene was out!

When they announced to us that we had a girl to add to our family, I was in disbelief.  Prior to her arrival, I had come around to the notion of having 3 boys.  I just assumed that is what we’d have.  But no, clearly God has other things in store for us – and we are so thankful for the newest gift He has given us.

My second moment of disbelief came when I heard how much my “little” girl weighed.  I thought for sure they were a pound off, but no, she weighed in at 9 pounds, 12 ounces.  That’s bigger than both of her brothers.  All 3 kids were the same length: 22 inches.  My little Sheck babies…they’re long ones!  No “newborn” clothes are worn in our house.  We skip right to the 3 month clothes.

Ingrid is the first granddaughter on both sides of the family and the first great-granddaughter of the 7 great-grandkids on Jake’s side of the family.  Let the inundation of pink begin!

New table & chairs

Jake and I made a trip to Ikea for a new TV stand and ended up coming home with a table and chairs for the boys as well.  We picked out an unfinished set that we plan on having the boys paint.  Before they can do that though, assembly was required.

Reseeding

After the tree removal, we were left with two large sections of the yard that were just dirt & ground stumps.  Jake took the boys to the hardware store to get grass seed and look at the bird feeders.  When they returned, the kids helped him prepare the dirt and spread the seed.  They are always so eager to help their dad – I love it!

Boys visit Nissedalen

Kari was in town this weekend (and it was her birthday) so being the wonderful brother he is 🙂 Jake so Jake loaded up the boys and headed north where she was visiting.  I didn’t feel up for the trek, so I opted to stay home and get a little (much needed) rest.  Judging from the pictures Jake took, everyone had a lot of fun.  Stacie and Larissa were also there, so there was no shortage of extra hands if Jake needed help corralling the kiddos.  And of course, no visit to the lake would be complete without some casting practice.  Forget actually fishing for fish, my kids just like to cast and reel the casting weight back in 🙂
