Last day of school 2021-2022 – take 2

Shecklet #2 is moving on to high school! Here is his first day pic vs. his last day. He has grown and changed so much over the school year.

Today marked the end of his 9 years at DVA. I can not believe how fast the time went. He is looking forward to a new school, fresh start, and different opportunities.

This evening the school held an 8th grade celebration for the students and their families. Shecklet #2 received two awards – the Presidential Award for academics and the Citizenship Award. Both are accomplishments he should be proud of!

Here he is with a few of the teachers who had an impact on his middle school years as well as his kindergarten teacher (who has kept tabs on him throughout the years 💙.)

Zoo field trip

We continue to return to “normal” after two years of abnormal. I was able to chaperone a school field trip to the zoo with Shecklet #4’s class. The group of girls I followed around had a mix of “run and see everything” and “read every single sign at every exhibit” kids. I didn’t have a problem getting my steps in today.

Book week at school

K-5 got to dress as a favorite book character for school today. Shecklet #3 is from the House of Slytherin (Harry Potter) and Shecklet #4 is Fancy Nancy. (Extra special thanks to Grandma Patti who made #3’s cape on short notice!)

For the middle school, it’s “Read my shirt” day. Shecklet #2 had several to choose from and chose his “Tyrannosaurus Deer” one. He told me he wore it because his science teacher (one of his favorite teachers this year) likes dinosaurs and so do her kids, who he has a sweet connection with as well.

Fan builder

Shecklet #2’s science teacher sent me this picture of the fan that #2 built in class. He has had a great year in this class. The next project they are doing is building a mini golf course. I can’t wait to see what the kids design!

Battle of the Books – 2022

After missing out on the battle of the books competition last year, (thanks, covid,) Shecklet #3 was excited to participate this year. The first school competition was in December and her team was one of the top 5 to advance to the spring competition. All total, she read about a dozen books between the fall and today’s event. I’m so proud of here.

Here she is with one of her closest friends – and fellow book lover.

Recess attire

Shecklet #2’s science teacher sent me this picture. She thought it was hilarious that he was wearing shorts, winter gloves and had his coat sleeves pushed up after coming in from recess. He is definitely a MN kid.

Spring break 2022

We spent the week at home. Jake traveled for work during the beginning of the week.

Shecklet #2 suggested we add some color to the study room, so we pulled down ceiling tiles and primed them for painting.

Three kids used the painter’s tape technique to paint design their designs and one used a sponge technique.

Once the weather warmed up enough, the kids put on their shorts (it was in the 50’s 😆) and went for their first bike ride of 2022.

Update: April 16. I chose to paint a family of gnomes. After painting six, Shecklet #2 asked if I was planning to paint one for Astrid. I found a design that incorporated a halo. I love how it turned out! 💕

What’s in the locker?

Jake and I were at the kids’ school today for a conference and checked Shecklet #4’s locker. Totally empty except for this:

Her dad and Uncle Jason were pretty proud.
