Penguin party!

Shecklet #3 celebrated the last day of school before Christmas break with a penguin party at school! Kindergartens and two guests were invited to join them. The kids sang songs about penguins and we had breakfast together. ❤️

Contagious…again

This year is the year our house has been contagious with just about every common childhood illness/bug. First it was pink eye. Everyone except for me (so, so thankful I didn’t get it) had it at some point over the course of a month. Then it was hand foot and mouth. Only one (#4) casualty there, but I think it was due to the others having had it when they were younger. Now we have lice. Yuck. And what a pain to get rid of! Laundry, hair treatment, constant checking and a missed day of school for the one who had it. I am praying it stops with one and we don’t all end up passing it around. 😝😷

Mill City Museum

I went on a field trip with Shecklet #2 and his 3rd grade class today. We learned a lot about the old flour mill and the river that used to power it. Great field trip!

1st day 2016-2017 (part 2)

My mini-me, Shecklet #3, is off to her first day of kindergarten!

Here she was at the end of the day. Her response to my asking how the day was, “Can I go back tomorrow?!?” I think that means she had a great 1st day!

1st day 2016-2017 (part 1)

Shecklet #1 and Shecklet #2 started a new school year today. Fourth grade and second grade. I can hardly believe it! Part 2 of back to school starts on Thursday.  #4 asked to have her picture taken with her oldest brother. (#3 is MIA because she was still sleeping.)

Supply drop

VBS week is almost finished, which typically signals the supply drop for the new school year. We ate lunch, loaded up the backpacks with supplies and headed to the school.

Last day of school!

Frozen yogurt tradition on the last day of school for the boys. Off to 3rd and 4th grade in August with Shecklet #3 joining them in kindergarten.

Lost tooth

Shecklet #2 pulled another tooth. This time, he decided to pull it before math class. The best part is that he got to bring the tooth home in a little treasure chest.

Math in the head

Shecklet #2 came home with a math worksheet today (3-digit addition problems) that had the following teacher comment on it: “Please show your work.”  His response to me (as I was reading the comment to myself) was, “I didn’t now we had to show our work, I just did the problem in my head.”  Love his confidence and ability to compute things in his little mind like that!

Science Fair 2015

We survived our first science fair!

Maybe I should rephrase that. We survived our first science fair where one of our kids was responsible for completing a project on their own and not part of a class.  During kindergarten and 1st grade, students complete a project as a class. They have the option of doing a project on their own, but we never went that route. Once they hit 2nd grade, they’re all on their own (or with 1 other friend, if they choose.) Knowing schedules are hectic, we didn’t even propose that option to Shecklet #1. That enabled us to do things at our own pace, which was a good way to ease into the world of elementary school science fair projects.

Shecklet #2’s class project involved discovering what happens to gummy bears when they are submerged in different liquids. He thought it was pretty cool that vinegar disintegrated the gummy bear.

Shecklet #1’s research question was “Which materials are the best conductors?” He did research that involved talking to Papa and looking up definitions in the dictionary. He worked with Jake to set up his experiment and typed up the information for the poster board he designed. He learned a lot, including that sometimes research leads to more questions, not just answers.
